At the end of January I decided it was time to try to love to run. I have always hated to run. Then I saw a program called Couch to 5K. What Josh Clark said totally made sense to me.
He explains "Too many people have been turned off of running simply by trying to start off too fast. Their bodies rebel, and they wind up miserable, wondering why anyone would possibly want to do this to themselves."
That has always been me. I had never even ran 1 mile. So I committed, 3 days a week, 20 minutes a day. 2 weeks into it Tyson ruptured a disk in his back and then we got the flu, the 2 weeks feeling like death flu.
I didn't run for those two weeks. I was miserable. Besides that I didn't miss. I made a schedule and stuck to it. My friend Brynn and I signed up for a 5k in May. I was so nervous that I wouldn't be ready. My the end of 9 weeks I COULD RUN 3 MILES WITHOUT STOPPING! It was amazing. I was even enjoying myself. Crazy I know. Then I just starting adding mileage. It's been 4 months now and I have ran 9 miles without stopping in 90 minutes!
Brynn and I ran the 5k and it was a blast!
Then my lovely friend Holly asked if I wanted to do a sprint triathlon Memorial Day weekend. Why not? Maybe we should have borrow road bikes.
Before the race with Holly and her husband Forrest.
Aren't they so cute?
One unfortunate side effect of running is a gnarly farmers tan!
Holly and I stuck together
The family came, a little late, they missed me crossing the finish line, we were faster than I had planned.
The sky was amazing.
What's up next?
Holly and I signing up for all kinds of fun.
5k on 4th of July
10k at the end of July
1/2 marathon tbd
I would absolutely recommend Couch to 5k program to anyone that is starting to run. It made all of the difference for me. I still run just 3 days a week and it's prefect for me. Although it's no longer 20 minutes. But like the program says you may soon find yourself running longer because you want to!

NO WAY! My family missed me crossing the finish line when I competed also! I was totally bummed. :(
I too have seen that couch to 5k thing...but never tried it. Now I'm more interested in trying it!
You have totally reminded me of where I was 3 years ago..and inspired me to get back to that place!
